The population of rats in Britain is alarmingly increasing due to mild winters and changes in waste collection methods. This issue has become a major problem for cities, and it seems these creeping creatures are easily roaming the streets and various neighborhoods.

Mild Winters and Increased Breeding

Mild winters not only help these rats survive but also create conditions for longer breeding periods. These rats have now grown so large that some of them reach lengths of 40 centimeters, or about 16 inches. In fact, the weather conditions allow these creatures to grow easily and increase their population.

Changes in Waste Collection

In addition to weather conditions, the presence of piled-up waste also exacerbates this problem. Changes in waste collection schedules in some areas, including the shift from weekly to bi-weekly collection, have directly impacted the increase in rat populations. With every delay or disruption in waste collection, more opportunities arise for rats to access food.

For example, in Birmingham, strikes in waste collection have led to a significant increase in accumulated waste and serious problems with rats. Overflowing trash, food waste, restaurant waste, and even bird feeding by people have all contributed to increasing food sources for these rats.

With such conditions, it seems that rats have become a serious problem in Britain, and there is a pressing need for immediate action to control this growing population. Can officials manage this crisis, or should we expect even more of these creatures to increase?
