Rose Stokes, a writer known for promoting positive body image views, has recently turned to using Mounjaro for weight loss. This decision has led some to criticize her for the contradiction in her views, but Stokes believes that beauty is not dependent on weight.

Personal Experience and Self-Acceptance

Stokes has struggled with body image issues and weight fluctuations since the age of 11. In her childhood, she calculated her caloric intake and sought to please others out of fear of judgment. She says, "This has always diminished my self-worth and challenged me."

However, as she entered adulthood and got to know her partner, Stokes gradually learned to consider herself worthy of love and affection at any size. In recent years, as a women's health journalist, she has engaged in discussions about body acceptance and fatphobia.

Mounjaro and New Challenges

Stokes has now turned to using Mounjaro for weight loss, while some accuse her of contradiction in her views. She responds to these criticisms by saying, "I am only a hypocrite if I believe one must be thin to be beautiful. I do not hold that belief." She believes that beauty is not dependent on weight and acknowledges that others may perceive this differently.

In this context, Stokes, along with Professor Giles Yeo, has launched a new podcast called "The Obesity Issue," which explores the complex relationship between weight, health, science, and society. She sees the goal of this podcast as providing scientific and human insights and states, "This podcast should not approach the topic from a judgmental perspective."

A Critique of Weight Loss Drug Advertising

Stokes strongly criticizes the way weight loss drugs are marketed, believing that these advertisements simply ignore the problems and side effects of these medications. She points out the increasing economic pressure on individuals who want to lose weight, saying, "Why should people whose bodies function differently have to pay extra?"

Nevertheless, Stokes believes that striving to improve one's health should not mean rejecting self-acceptance. She says, "I think loving oneself also means supporting oneself. For me, this means striving to become a healthier version of myself."

The Podcast "The Obesity Issue" and the Importance of Body Acceptance

The podcast "The Obesity Issue," hosted by Stokes and Professor Yeo, is available on all platforms. The goal of this podcast is to raise awareness about weight and health-related issues and to encourage self-acceptance as an individual of any size.
