Suki Panesar, a prominent character in EastEnders, makes an unexpected decision to favor Eve Panesar-Owen (Heather Peace) over her daughter Ash Panesar (Shakira Wahab). Ash's Return and Family Tensions
Ash, previously played by Gurleen Kaur Garcha, had gone to Canada in 2023 to pursue her medical career. She decides to return after her father Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) is released from prison and following multiple conflicts with Suki over her refusal to accept Ash's gender identity. Ash is currently seeking to rebuild her relationship with her family, but her reasons seem far from simple.
Complex Mother-Daughter Relationships
Suki, now married to Eve and having found more peace in her life, still struggles with negative feelings towards her daughter. Initially, she refrains from contacting Ash, but eventually agrees to talk to her while Ash listens in indirectly. This meeting turns into a "frozen encounter" where Ash escalates tensions with comments about Suki's parenting style.
With Eve's help, the two eventually reach a reconciliation, but Suki tells Ash that she cannot stay with them because she and Eve need to focus on their stepdaughter Ria. This situation causes Ash to feel rejected again and highlights further challenges that this family must face.
