The family life and trust in a family that has faced a crisis have been severely threatened. Terry O'Connor, 33, executed a shocking and unbelievable plan to siphon off £200,000 from his family's savings and went on holiday in Turkey for a year. However, ultimately, this shameless theft was caught by the law.
The Sinister Theft Plan
Terry O'Connor secretly set up online and telephone bank accounts for his parents, siblings, and also his grandfather. Over five years, he gradually transferred the money into his own account. This theft was uncovered when his grandfather went to the bank to withdraw some money and discovered that £80,000 of his life savings was nearly empty.
Bank investigations revealed that the money was first transferred to Terry's parents' accounts and then to his own account. The police, by following up on this matter, realized that he had acted as his relatives and used their accounts to steal the money.
Consequences and Punishment
In a special court in Swansea, it was revealed that he had stolen £79,659 from his grandfather, £84,094 from his parents, £29,353 from his brother, and £8,241 from his sister. After the theft, Terry traveled by ferry from Dover to France and then went to Turkey, where he spent nearly a year. He returned to England in April this year and was arrested at Gatwick Airport.
The court announced that his grandfather's bank had refunded all the stolen money, while his brother's bank had returned half of the stolen funds. However, other family members lost all their savings. Unfortunately, Terry O'Connor's grandfather passed away after this incident.
