The George Inn, located on Stone Street in Sterling Minis near Canterbury, is soon to be auctioned due to reports of an old spirit. This inn, recognized as one of the supernatural attractions, has always drawn the attention of enthusiasts and attracted many ghost hunters.
History and Claims of the Spirit
According to reports, patrons of this inn have heard the soothing symphony of muffled footsteps outside the inn for years. Some believe these sounds may originate from the spirits of the four knights who murdered Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury, in Canterbury Cathedral in 1170. Locals believe that these four knights, including Reginald Fitzurse, Hugh de Morville, Richard Brito, and William de Tracy, passed by this road on the day of the murder.

Additionally, visitors to this inn have claimed to have seen a ghostly figure dressed in 18th-century clothing sitting beside a "black spirit dog" inside the inn. These claims have attracted the attention of paranormal researchers and generated public interest in this historic location.
Auction Details and Features of the Inn
Although the building of this inn, which is listed as a Grade II structure, was built in the mid-19th century, paranormal researchers believe the spirit may belong to a former owner of the inn or a local who remained in this place after death. The ownership of this building is now being auctioned due to the owners' decision to retire from the business.
This building, set on a plot of 1.8 acres, will be auctioned with a guide price of £320,000. The real estate agency Fleurets has announced that this inn has recently been refurbished and includes amenities such as self-contained accommodation, a beer garden, parking, and land that can host camping.
The George Inn, which closed earlier this year, is being sold as a historic and unique location. This auction is set to take place on Thursday, September 24, conducted by auctioneers Clive Emson.
