Miraculous Rescue

His brother, Sydney Koluvi, 35, died in the accident, and his cousin disappeared during the night. Derek survived in freezing conditions without food or water, holding onto faith and hope, and was ultimately rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter and a fishing boat named "Northwest Explorer."

Derek's mother, Veena Koluvi, who was listening to the news on the radio during her son's rescue, said, "When we heard that Derek was alive, we all burst into joy and tears."
