Eurostar has launched a double-decker bar on its new trains to maintain its position against new competitors. These changes are part of larger plans to enhance the travel experience for passengers. Eurostar's CEO, Gwendolyn Cassinau, has stated that this bar will be considered one of the main attractions of the trains.
Double-Decker Bar and New Experiences
The double-decker bar on Eurostar's new trains, known as "Celestia," allows passengers to have an experience beyond a regular journey. Cassinau emphasized in conversations with the media that the design of this bar will create an atmosphere similar to "speakeasy" bars. This bar will be generally accessible to all passengers, and Eurostar staff will play a significant role in creating this experience.

Development and Improvement of Train Fleet
Eurostar is seeking to increase its capacity by investing nearly 2 billion euros in the purchase of 50 new double-decker trains. This fleet is expected to be operational by 2031 and will have an average capacity that is 20 percent greater than the current fleet. Cassinau also mentioned new features such as air conditioning, emphasizing that this feature will be implemented in response to the unprecedented heat of this summer.
In 2018, Eurostar launched its direct services from London to Amsterdam, and now with the new capacity, it aims to increase its annual passenger numbers from about 20 million to 30 million. These changes are particularly significant in the context of competition with new companies like "Trenitalia" and "Virgin Train," which will soon begin their services.
As Eurostar is heavily preparing for a new era of competition, the company is also looking to improve its infrastructure and increase the capacity of its stations. Development operations at St Pancras station, which are expected to be completed by 2028, aim to increase passenger processing capacity to over 5,000 people per hour.
