Matthew Rhys made history by winning two major awards at the Emmy Awards, becoming the first actor in 78 years to receive two major awards in one night.
Success in Two Categories
This 51-year-old Welsh actor was recognized at the United States television awards for his roles in the supernatural comedy "Widow's Bay" and the psychological thriller "The Beast In Me." Rhys received his first award for Best Actor in a Limited Series for "The Beast In Me" and then took home the award for Best Actor in a Comedy for "Widow's Bay."

Appreciation for Wales and Colleagues
While accepting his second award, Rhys said, "To the great and wonderful people of Wales, who played a part in this success as much as anyone else." He continued, "We are a small but powerful nation. It’s truly amazing."
Rhys also added in Welsh, "Diolch yn fawr iawn," which means "thank you very much."
Behind the scenes, he stated, "I come from a small country, and I’m glad we have the opportunity to show our flag and can say that sometimes we have more power than we are."
Successes of "Widow's Bay"
The series "Widow's Bay" also achieved remarkable success at the ceremony, winning 14 awards out of 19 nominations. Rhys's co-star in the series, Kate O'Flynn, also received the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her role as Patricia. She described this role as "the role of a lifetime" and thanked the show for trusting her to portray this character.
In other categories, Jean Smart won the award for Best Actress in a Comedy for "Hacks," marking her fifth Emmy for this series. Additionally, Allison Janney also won her eighth Emmy for "The Diplomat," joining the ranks of actors with the most Emmy awards in history.
Rhea Seehorn received her first Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama for "Pluribus." Finally, "The Pitt" won the award for Best Drama, and Noah Wyle took home the award for Best Actor for the second consecutive year.
