In 2003, when Vieira had reached the peak of his fame with Arsenal and the French national team, he returned to Senegal and founded a football academy in his hometown. Now, after years, Vieira has returned to his country, but this time as the head coach of the national team.

The Senegal national team faced a disappointing exit from the 2022 World Cup last summer.
