The anti-immigration protests in Portsmouth have become one of the most controversial topics of the day. In this context, a 76-year-old man named Timothy Justin Miller from Hodge End, Southampton, was arrested for wearing a face covering during the protest on charges of concealing his identity.
Announcement of New Police Powers
This charge was announced just one day after Hampshire police reported the implementation of new laws allowing them to detain anyone who conceals their identity. Released images show Miller being arrested with black coverings over his face and head, and being handcuffed during the protest.
Miller is set to appear in Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday. According to the police, a total of two men and one teenage boy were arrested at the protest.

While protests have continued this week, volunteers and staff of RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) have faced unacceptable attacks from anti-immigration protesters. These volunteers have been heavily targeted while rescuing migrants arriving on the shore and have been labeled as "traitors."
