Emmanuel Petit, former midfielder of Arsenal and Chelsea, predicted that Manchester United and Liverpool have no hope for success this season. Both teams are facing serious problems, especially in their efforts to return to the UEFA Champions League.

Poor Start for Manchester United and Liverpool

Manchester United has only achieved one victory from their first four matches in the Premier League and has experienced two defeats. The team has recently lost to Hull City and Manchester City. On the other hand, Liverpool, under the new management of Andoni Iraola, remains unbeaten, but three of their four matches have ended in draws, including a goalless draw with Fulham last Saturday.

Challenges Ahead for Iraola and Carrick

Andoni Iraola, who joined Liverpool from Bournemouth in the summer, is still struggling to achieve positive results. Meanwhile, Michael Carrick, the head coach of Manchester United, is facing serious challenges in his first season at Old Trafford. Petit believes that the current situation of these two clubs reflects their failure in the transfer market.

Transfer Market Analysis

Petit criticized Manchester United's performance in the summer transfer market, stating: "I was not satisfied with Manchester United's activities in the summer. If you asked me about every player they signed, I would have said no. I wanted better options, and one or two defenders should have been added to the team." He also emphasized that Carrick cannot be solely responsible for these failures, adding: "I don't think Carrick was under pressure this summer. It seems he has agreed with the players, but Manchester United often spends money on players who are generally not suitable for this team."

Criticism of Manchester United Stars

Petit also criticized Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, two well-known stars of Manchester United, saying: "These two players should be the leaders of this team on the field and in the locker room, but I don't see that from them. Luke Shaw has been a good left-back in the past, but I can't remember the last time I was impressed by his performance. These players need to show more to prove themselves."

He also referred to Maguire, saying: "His absence from the World Cup was really disappointing, but when you play for the most famous club in the world, you need to reach a high level. I can't understand why some players stay at Manchester United for years if they are not good enough to wear this shirt."
