Andy Burnham, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, returned to the public eye, expressing gratitude for public support and political party leaders following the death of his father, Roy Burnham. Burnham, who lost his father on Monday, canceled all his activities, including a meeting with business leaders and a speech at the Trades Union Congress (TUC) conference.
Appreciation for Public Support
In a post on social media platform X, Burnham wrote: “We are grateful to everyone who has sent kind messages about my father, especially the leaders of other parties. My family and I have benefited from the warmth and sympathy of the people during this difficult time. This support means a lot to us, and we wanted to thank you for it.”

Return to Official Duties
Andy Burnham returns to work today with two high-level diplomatic appointments as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney visit the UK. He is expected to attend the Everton vs. Wolverhampton football match with Carney, who is a fellow Liverpool supporter.
Roy Burnham was suffering from Alzheimer's disease at the time of his death, and the Prime Minister had previously spoken about the difficulties arising from his father's lack of awareness of his new position. Andy Burnham has described this experience as one of his main motivations for reforming the social care system.
Burnham also received support from leaders of other parties, including Keir Starmer, Ed Davey, Nigel Farage, and Zac Goldsmith. Starmer, the leader of the Conservative Party, wrote in a post on X: “You can never be prepared for the loss of a father. It is a profoundly painful experience. A part of life that has always been with you suddenly disappears forever, and you may feel that a part of you will never return to normal.”
