In a significant development in international trade, Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, officially called for the widespread use of local currencies in trade transactions at the BRICS Business Forum. These statements come at a time when Iran is seeking to strengthen economic relations with the member countries of this group.
Iran; An Energy and Transportation Bridge
Pezeshkian, in his speech, introduced Iran as a strategic bridge in the field of energy and transportation and emphasized that the use of local currencies could help reduce dependence on the dollar and strengthen trade exchanges among countries. He added: "Trading with local currencies is not only beneficial for BRICS member countries but can also contribute to the establishment of a new financial system independent of global market fluctuations."
These remarks by the President of Iran come at a time when countries are seeking solutions to reduce dependence on the dollar and strengthen their national currencies. Pezeshkian also recently pointed to the importance of economic cooperation with neighboring countries and other BRICS nations, stating: "We must leverage our economic capacities and seek to develop relations with friendly countries."
Challenges and Opportunities
However, there are challenges in achieving this goal. Some experts believe that the use of local currencies may face issues such as currency fluctuations and lack of trust in national currencies. Nevertheless, Pezeshkian believes that with international cooperation and appropriate regulation, these challenges can be managed.
It seems that Pezeshkian's proposal could emerge as a new solution in the realm of global trade and introduce Iran as a key player in regional and global economic developments. In this context, it is expected that BRICS countries will seriously respond to this proposal and create opportunities for further cooperation.
