Frankie, a 23-year-old contestant on 'Big Brother' living in London, revealed his queerness on television in an emotional moment. He expressed that he decided to come on this reality show to share his gender identity for the first time.
Coming Out on the First Day
On his first morning in the house, Frankie told his housemates that he had trouble sleeping the night before and went to bed feeling very low. In Tuesday's episode, he went to the diary room and explained that he woke up feeling a bit upset.
Frankie stated, "I needed to get this off my chest. I came on this show to introduce myself because I am queer." He added, "I have been in pain and suffering for a long time – probably about a year and a half or two years – because of the guilt and shame I carry with me.
Concerns and Social Support
He was visibly affected while speaking and said, "I feel like I have disappointed a lot of people." Frankie mentioned his concerns about others' reactions to the news and expressed, "Some may not want to be friends with me anymore. Some may want to distance themselves from me; this is a bit upsetting for me."
The diary room producer asked Frankie what prepared him for this big step, and he responded that he feels comfortable in the 'Big Brother' environment. This moment quickly went viral on social media and was met with a wave of support from celebrities and television viewers.
Ferdy Fraser, a former contestant from 'Traitors' who also recently came out, wrote on the 'Big Brother' Instagram post: "Frankie, you are our hero." Nathan Henry from 'Gordon Ramsay' expressed pride in Frankie, and Kate Lawler, the first female winner of 'Big Brother', said she feels sympathy for Frankie.
