John Mulaney at the Emmys, which took place on Monday night in Los Angeles, managed to draw attention with his jokes. The 44-year-old comedian, who took the stage to present the award for Best Actor, not only made the audience laugh but also sparked calls for an increased role for him as the main host of the ceremony.

Mulaney's Controversial Jokes

Mulaney began his speech by stating that it was now time for the "best part of the night," discussing men in general. He jokingly said, "Historically, men have been underrepresented since the creation of television." This statement from Mulaney was met with laughter from the star of the series "This Is Us," Sterling K. Brown, among the audience.

He continued, "In the first three years of television, there were no men. Only beauty pageants and children talking to puppets. Until the early 60s, when a man left the scene." His reference was to the character Fonzie from the show "Happy Days."

Best Actor Award

Mulaney introduced the nominees for this category, which included Sterling K. Brown, Gary Oldman, Mark Ruffalo, Rufus Sewell, and Noah Wyle. Noah Wyle ultimately won the award for the show "The Pitt."

Mulaney quipped, "Some of the men in this category do method acting, while others do regular and less annoying acting. But whatever it is, when these gentlemen get to their mark, they know all their lines. Why? Because they looked at their scripts early in the morning."

The comedian then referenced a part of a joke that was cut from the live broadcast, which alluded to DJ Khaled's controversial comments in 2014 about not performing oral sex on his wife. At this point, the live audio was cut off, but quickly returned to the laughter of the audience in the hall.

Mulaney continued, "But these nominees know that this talk is meaningless. They know that there is often less pressure on them if they do it first." At this moment, the camera panned to Noah Wyle and his wife Sara Wells, who was hiding behind her husband.

This moment, after being shared on social media, was viewed over two million times, and users called for Mulaney to host the Emmys next year. One user wrote, "This whole segment from John Mulaney was so good. I need him to host the Emmys next year."

In the comments section, many agreed with this request, and one user said, "I genuinely don’t know why he isn’t appointed as the head of hosts for any ceremony."

Mulaney, with his jokes, not only managed to liven up the atmosphere of the ceremony but also sparked numerous discussions on social media. These jokes clearly showcased his talent for creating an entertaining and engaging atmosphere at formal events.
