Manchester United is facing an unexpected absence of Luke Shaw ahead of their crucial derby against Manchester City. Michael Carrick, the team's head coach, has confirmed that Shaw could not participate in this match due to a "very minor" injury.

Shaw, after a long summer break without international football, played in the first three Premier League matches against Hull City, Ipswich, and Everton. However, ahead of the match against City, he was given a "special rest day," which seems to have kept him out of the starting lineup.

Carrick, in response to a question about Shaw's closeness to the starting lineup, said: "Close, very close but unfortunately not for today." These remarks reflect existing concerns about the players' physical condition and its impact on the overall performance of the team.
