Two Britons are among the three people who lost their lives in the crash of a small plane in the Swiss Alps. The incident took place on Tuesday in the Leukerbad area of the Valais canton in Switzerland.

Government and Emergency Services Response
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has announced that two of the deceased are British citizens and assistance is being provided to their families. A spokesperson for the office stated, "We will stand by the families during this difficult time."
Before the incident, the plane had flown from Lugano in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino and was heading to Buochs Airport in the Nidwalden canton after a stop in Sion. The crash occurred around 4 PM. Local residents observed smoke from the incident and immediately alerted emergency services.
In response to the incident, three helicopters and two rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, and staff from the Valais rescue organization also rushed to assist. Images released by local police show the wreckage of the plane scattered across the mountainside.
Investigation into the Cause of the Crash
Swiss federal authorities are investigating the cause of the incident, and a separate inquiry led by the Federal Prosecutor's Office along with the Valais canton police has also been initiated. This tragic incident occurred just days after another deadly incident in the Swiss Alps, where a bus carrying 48 Dutch tourists overturned on a mountain road in the Graubünden canton. The bus collided with a safety barrier and then fell down the mountain, resulting in several deaths and injuries.
Full details regarding the number of casualties and injuries in this incident have not yet been officially announced. Local authorities are conducting the necessary investigations to examine these two unfortunate incidents.
