Paulo Sadokha, a 56-year-old Ukrainian activist and staunch critic of Vladimir Putin, was found dead on Sunday in a hotel in Cortiçai, Portugal. He lost his life while on a business trip to the area.
Investigation into Sadokha's Death
The police found no signs of foul play upon arriving at the scene, but it was revealed that Sadokha had a history of heart problems. Nevertheless, the public prosecutor's office in Portugal decided to initiate an investigation to examine the possibility of third-party involvement in his death. Friends and close associates told local media that Sadokha's health condition was "completely under control" and that he had recently undergone tests.

Call for a Complete Autopsy
Mikola Shymoniak, the vice president of the organization that Sadokha was leading at the time of his death, announced that they are calling for a complete autopsy to explore all possibilities. He stated, "Everyone wants to do whatever is possible to clarify the ambiguities. Our goal is to ensure that all possible hypotheses are thoroughly examined. This is a duty to our compatriot."
An initial autopsy has been conducted, but the results of toxicology tests on his blood and tissue samples are expected to be released in about three to four weeks.
Paulo Sadokha's Life and Contributions
Sadokha had lived in Portugal for over two decades and was recognized as a key member of the leadership team of the World Congress of Ukrainians. The organization expressed its condolences for his loss, stating, "Paulo dedicated decades of his life to Ukraine and serving the Ukrainian community in Portugal." He played a significant role in organizing solidarity activities for Euromaidan in Portugal in 2013 and 2014, as well as supporting Ukrainian defenders after Russia's invasion of his country.
In June of last year, Sadokha criticized the Kremlin and condemned them for the militarization of children in Tenerife through Russia-backed organizations. He also participated in protests against Lula da Silva, the President of Brazil, during his official five-day visit to Portugal in 2023.
Paulo Sadokha was always a loud voice for the people of Ukraine, and his absence will be deeply felt.
