Managing eczema, a skin condition that millions of people in the UK struggle with, requires special attention and adherence to specific guidelines. With the start of National Eczema Week, experts have examined the factors that can trigger the recurrence of this condition and provided strategies for controlling it.

Triggers of Eczema

People with eczema know well that this condition can unpredictably flare up. Weather changes, including heat, sweating, and changes in detergents, can lead to itching and inflammation. According to experts, around eight million people in the UK suffer from eczema, which includes one in ten adults and one in five children.

Skincare Routine

In order to manage eczema, Dr. Ali Rashid, a dermatologist, recommends using fragrance-free moisturizers at least twice a day. He also emphasizes that individuals should avoid soap-based cleansers and instead use soap alternatives. Active ingredients such as glycerin, petrolatum, ceramides, and lipids should be present in the selected products.

Dr. Rashid considers it very important to use a moisturizer that the individual likes. He suggests using QV Skin Lotion as a lightweight moisturizer during the day and QV Cream at night to help the skin.

Managing Eczema Recurrence

Eczema recurrence can occur at times due to specific factors and at other times may seem random. Dr. Johnny Goukian, a dermatologist, recommends that inflammation treatment should be initiated promptly and individuals should avoid scented products. He believes that using fragrance-free moisturizers in adequate amounts at the right time can help reduce symptoms.

Additionally, Dr. Goukian points out that if an infection occurs, which may be accompanied by symptoms such as fever or painful sores, one should consult a doctor promptly. In such cases, the use of prescribed treatments should be done according to the doctor's instructions.

Overall, proper management of eczema requires awareness and attention to detail. By following the tips provided by specialists, individuals can gain more control over this condition and improve their quality of life.
