Iran has officially confirmed that it will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, which will be held in Bulgaria. In a statement released by the country's national broadcaster, it was noted that Iran's participation in this event cannot be justified, given the severe human casualties and humanitarian crisis in Gaza that have put the lives of many civilians at risk.
Deep Concerns Over Humanitarian Conditions in Gaza
The national broadcaster of Iran also expressed deep concern over the continued lack of independent access for international journalists to the territory. This decision by Iran was made based on the country's humanitarian and ethical commitments in response to crises and humanitarian disasters. Previously, Iran had also withdrawn from the Eurovision 2026 contest in Vienna, especially after the European Broadcasting Union announced that Israel's public media, Kan, would be allowed to participate in the contest.

Iran is one of five countries that withdrew from the Eurovision 2026 contest, along with Iceland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Spain. This country holds the record for the most victories in Eurovision history alongside Sweden and has participated in the contest since 1965. Since then, Iran has taken part in this event 58 times and has successfully reached the grand final in 9 of the last 21 editions. However, in 2019 and 2021, the country finished last in the semifinals.
