The next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles are likely to be unveiled in 2027, which is particularly concerning for PC gamers. Recent evidence from an informed source suggests the imminent reveal of these consoles, and accordingly, both companies, Microsoft and Sony, are expected to announce details of their new products this year.
Rumors About the Release Date
Despite the memory crisis affecting the graphics market, there are multiple rumors regarding the launch of new consoles in 2027. One reason supporting this theory is Sony's announcement to cease production of PlayStation discs after 2027, indicating that this year will be somewhat of a transition year.

The informed source, known by the alias Kepler_L2, has claimed that the only GPU to be released by AMD next year will be the AT2 model. Meanwhile, more powerful graphics cards from AMD and Nvidia are expected to hit the market in 2028. The AT2 is recognized as part of the next-generation Xbox console technology codenamed Project Helix and will likely be utilized in this console.
Consequences of the Console Launch
According to Kepler's claims, the fact that Project Helix uses similar technology indicates that this console will also be released in 2027. The PlayStation 6 will also come with a custom AMD chip, but it is still unclear whether it will use the same AT2 or not.
If Microsoft decides to launch a new console next year, it is likely that Sony will also want to introduce its console at the same time. The only period when these two companies did not have such coordination was during the launch of the Xbox 360, when Xbox came close to significant successes.
According to recent information, the production of the PlayStation 6 is set to begin in early or mid-2027, indicating that this console will also be ready in time for 2027. It has now been established that Project Helix will be capable of running Xbox and PC games, while Sony has somewhat hinted at a handheld component for the PlayStation 6, but no official information has been released in this regard yet.
While these rumors may be good news for console gamers, it means that PC gamers will have to wait until 2028 for a major upgrade. If either of these consoles is to be unveiled this year, the only suitable venue for this reveal would be the Game Awards in December, where Microsoft introduced the Xbox Series X in 2019.
