Zach Kreger, who previously earned $270 million globally with the film Weapons, decided against a direct adaptation of a game and instead aimed to create a scary and engaging atmosphere that conveys the feel of the game. He says, "I had a clear idea of the best Resident Evil movie I wanted to make, and fortunately, I had a studio that provided the necessary resources to create it."
