João Pedro, the 24-year-old forward for Chelsea, has an uncertain status ahead of the team's match against Brentford this week. Xabi Alonso, Chelsea's head coach, has stated regarding Pedro and other injured players that none of them are considered ruled out for this match.
Pedro's Performance This Season
Pedro played in the 2-2 match last week against Hull City, scoring his third goal in four Premier League games. However, he has been absent from training since that match and consequently missed the Brazil national team's camp for the international break. Following this incident, Matheus Martinelli from Fluminense was selected as Pedro's replacement in the national team.
Alonso's Final Decision on Pedro and Other Players
In a press conference before Thursday's game, Alonso vaguely responded to questions about Pedro's status, saying: "We have our last training session today. No one has been ruled out for Friday. We will make the final decision tomorrow." He also expressed caution regarding Pedro's training on Thursday, stating: "Tomorrow we will see if he is ready to play or not, and we will make our decision."
Moisés Caicedo is another injured Chelsea player who has only played once this season under Alonso. Alonso also commented on Caicedo's status: "He is getting closer to playing, and we will make the final decision tomorrow. Moisés is one of the best midfielders in the world, and any team that has him in the midfield will be a better team."
Additionally, Reece James, Chelsea's captain, faced similar questions from reporters due to his absence from training. Alonso said regarding this: "This was just a decision for Tuesday. We will decide tomorrow."
Chelsea is looking to inflict the first loss of the season on Brentford in their upcoming short-term match. Brentford has so far achieved one victory and three draws in the Premier League and has performed well in two rounds of the Carabao Cup.
