Macklemore, the famous American rapper, has announced that he will donate the entire net income of one million dollars from Ed Sheeran's tour to organizations that support Palestinians. This decision was made after members of Ed Sheeran's supporting groups withdrew from his tour due to Macklemore's statements in support of Palestine.
Background of Withdrawals
Following Macklemore's speech at one of the concerts where he called for the freedom of Palestine, he was removed from the American leg of Ed Sheeran's tour. This action came after Pink's criticisms of Macklemore, and reports indicate that stadium managers informed Ed Sheeran that he could not perform if he continued to work with Macklemore. Other supporting artists like Finneas, Lukas Graham, and Aaron Rowe also withdrew from the tour for the same reason.
Donation to Support Palestinians
Macklemore wrote in an Instagram post: "Given the events of the past 48 hours, I want to bring the conversation back to where it needs to be; to the people of Palestine who are still being killed, living under military occupation, and still fighting for their freedom." He also announced that six organizations "that directly support the people of Palestine" will benefit from this donation.
He invited Robert Kraft, the CEO of Kraft Group, to join him in donating to these organizations, adding: "Although we may have disagreements on some issues, perhaps we can agree on this: the lives of Palestinians are worth protecting."
While Ed Sheeran has not responded to the criticisms regarding his support for Macklemore, this issue has become a hot topic in social media. Macklemore also urged his fans to focus their attention on the people of Palestine and emphasized the need for immediate political changes.
He concluded by saying: "This is a man-made injustice that requires immediate political changes. Palestinians have lived for decades without basic rights and should not have to wait another day for their freedom."
